Whitman is currently a co-chair of the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition (CASEnergy), founded in 2006 to promote the recognition that nuclear energy can improve energy security, ensure clean air quality, and enhance the quality of life and economic well-being of all Americans. While visiting FIU, Gov. Whitman spoke with the Department of Energy (DOE) Fellows from FIU’s Applied Research Center about career opportunities in the nuclear energy industry. New nuclear reactors planned by Progress Energy and Florida Power & Light would produce 1,400-1,800 jobs during construction and 400-700 jobs during operation.
