On October 28, 2009 Dr. George Philippidis was a guest of reporter Hernan Restrepo on the Colombian National Radio. George answered questions about algae and algal fuels noting that it is a promising technology because it combines carbon capture and use of brackish water to produce renewable fuels, like diesel, with yields per acre that exceed by 10-fold or more the yields of ethanol from corn and biodiesel from palm oil. However, technical challenges remain to be overcome before algal fuels become a commercial reality.
