Mark Rodriguez is a Research Specialist II at the FIU’s Applied Research Center working on embedded system design and virtualization supporting projects for the Department of Defense (DOD). Mark is a biomedical engineer with over 25 years of experience working with Fortune 100 companies in high-stakes, safety-critical environments. He specializes in embedded systems design, complex algorithm development, and the creation of advanced biomedical simulations and digital twins. His work includes applied machine learning to medical image segmentation, stitching, and OCR-based prescription label extraction. He has also developed firmware for life-sustaining implantable heart pumps, secure military wearables with encrypted satellite communications, and wireless healthcare platforms integrating heart rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and activity tracking. Most recently, he has developed a hemodynamic model of the human heart to support clinical training and “what-if” analysis for heart disease management. With a strong combination of technical expertise, leadership, and innovation, Mark continues to push the boundaries of biomedical engineering, embedded systems, and advanced algorithm development.
