Walter Quintero is a Research Scientist and Information Technology Team Lead at the Applied Research Center (ARC) at Florida International University. He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and an M.S. in Engineering Management. With over 20 years of experience in Information Technology, management, and engineering, Mr. Quintero is a key contributor to multiple high-impact IT projects, including those for the Department of Energy Environmental Management (DOE-EM) and cybersecurity initiatives for the Department of Defense (DOD).
Mr. Quintero has successfully managed several of ARC’s mentor-protégé projects, ranging from evaluating large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to deploying Microsoft tools such as Microsoft Project and SharePoint. His applied research expertise spans enterprise systems for both web and mobile platforms, web and database applications, cybersecurity, and most recently, generative artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications in autonomous systems and natural language processing.
In his role, Mr. Quintero leads a team of researchers and analysts and plays an active role in guiding the direction of new research initiatives, particularly in the realm of AI-driven automation, AI application to specific domains and ethical AI practices. He is also passionate about mentoring FIU STEM students, supporting their growth through a variety of IT projects that span web development, cybersecurity, and AI integration.
